Jim Ross believes it is wise for Swerve Strickland’s military background to be brought up on AEW TV as it helps cement him as a babyface.

Swerve served in the U.S. Army Reserve from 2008 to 2015 and was stationed in York, Pennsylvania. His father was also part of the United States Army.

On a recent edition of his “Grilling JR” podcast, Ross argued in favor of Swerve’s past in the reserves being referenced on AEW programming. He said,

“He is a very, very physical, tough guy. I want to know more about his military service. We’ve gotta’ address that because he’s mentioned it two or three times on interviews and so forth, and I think that’s a good thing to sell for a babyface, especially because you served your country.”

Strickland won the AEW World Championship at AEW Dynasty 2024 earlier this month with a victory over Samoa Joe. The win made Swerve the eighth man to hold the gold.

Swerve addressed fans on this week’s episode of AEW Collision. His next challenger for the title will be revealed on the upcoming episode of AEW Dynamite.
