AEW boasts a highly talented roster of professional wrestlers who are always prepared to showcase entertaining matches to the fans. However, many talented individuals are underutilized with limited weekly television time. As a result, several AEW contracts are approaching their expiration.

On a recent edition of Wrestling Observer Live, Bryan Alvarez noted that historically, AEW witnessed a significant period without any layoffs, but recently, some wrestlers have been released.

Alvarez pointed out that AEW President Tony Khan’s reluctance to terminate employees might lead to a new strategy where contracts are not renewed, and talent is phased out without formal releases or firings. He said,

“You know, there was that deal where for a long time he never fired anybody, and then, you know, some people got released of late. He does not like confrontation; he does not like doing stuff like that. So I think what you’re going to see starting very soon is contracts are going to just expire, and that will be the end of people’s run, as opposed to being released or fired. Contracts will end, and that’s it. Thank you for your help. So, I’m not sure when Mark Henry’s contract is due, but there are a lot of contracts coming due, and we will see who gets re-signed and who is history.”

It remains to be seen who will be retained by AEW in the coming months.
