As seen on AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam in New York City at the USTA Arthur Ashe Stadium on TNT, Bryan Danielson vs. Kenny Omega in a non-title match opened the show instead of being saved for the main event, which ended up being Women’s Champion Britt Baker defending her title against Ruby Soho.
Omega vs. Danielson went to a time limit draw with a rematch expected to be booked in the near future.
Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the reason this was done was to ensure the match could go on longer and not have any timing issues. It also allowed them to have fewer commercial breaks during the thirty minute match. Typically, they can get away with fewer commercial breaks at the start of the show than they can at the end.
