Per a report from Wrestling Observer Newsletter’s Dave Meltzer, the No Mercy contract signing between Roman Reigns and John Cena went exactly as planned. The segment was said to be aimed to seem as though the pair were “shooting from the hip” and “breaking the fourth wall.” Things such as Cena talking about turning heel and Reigns being the guy that’s supposed to replace him were also scripted.

Reigns saying that Cena buries young talent and that he is the one guy “The Leader Of The Cenation” can’t bury was also planned. Meltzer did note, however, that the one part of that segment that wasn’t expected was Cena calling Reigns out for his promo skills when he stumbled on his lines. The script for the segment was planned out last week and Vince McMahon himself spoke to both Reigns and Cena about how he wanted things to go down. Each man was given outlines of their script.

Cena and Reigns will go one-on-one, likely, in the main event of next month’s (Sun. September 24, 2017) No Mercy pay-per-view (PPV) from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.
