WWE wants to have Roman Reigns vs. The Rock at WrestleMania 39, should the latter’s schedule allow him to be free enough to wrestle at ‘Mania. There has been speculation about The Rock possibly appearing at the Royal Rumble and winning the 2023 Men’s Royal Rumble Match to “earn” his title shot.
WrestlingNews.co reports that The Rock is still not locked in for WrestleMania, but the company does have a backup plan in place. If The Rock can’t work the match with the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion, the current plan is for Cody Rhodes to challenge Reigns for the Universal Championship.
WWE is looking to get The Rock committed before the Royal Rumble because it sets things in motion for ‘Mania. The plan for the first night of ‘Mania will see Seth Rollins vs. Drew McIntyre or Cody Rhodes for the WWE Title, while Reigns vs. The Rock or Rhodes will headline the second night.
WWE wants to have a top title for each brand heading into the summer so they plan to split the WWE Championship and Universal Championship before WrestleMania 39.
