Damage CTRL has proven to be a force to be reckoned with in WWE, but the group is quite different from what Bayley had planned.
The Role Model returned to WWE TV at SummerSlam 2022, after over a year away with injury, alongside IYO SKY and the rehired Dakota Kai.
Speaking with Ariel Helwani, Bayley explained the original members she wanted for the team. She said,
“It had a different group of people as time went on. Peyton Royce was someone that I really wanted in there. Tegan Nox was someone that I wanted in there. There were a lot of people that it just kind of changed throughout time and as people left the company and things like that.”
Bayley also said that the original name for the group would have distanced the Role Model from her past accolades as a babyface. She added,
“I wanted it to be called. ‘The Now’. To me, it was that I didn’t care about the championships I won in the past, I don’t care about what happens next, like these girls right here and what we’re about to do, the present is all that matters.”
The former RAW Women’s Champion said that Damage CTRL would be “not even close” to existing had Triple H not taken over WWE Creative in July 2022.
On tonight’s episode of RAW, IYO SKY and Dakota Kai will defend their WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships against Becky Lynch and Lita.
