On a recent episode of The Wrestling Time Machine podcast, wrestling journalist Bill Apter discussed Vince McMahon and his short lived retirement that came to an end earlier this month.

Apter offered some fascinating insights about the reinstated WWE Chairman’s mindset dating back to the 1970s. He also offered an in-depth comparison of Vince McMahon and his daughter Stephanie.

You can check out some highlights from the podcast below:

On Vince McMahon’s mindset going back to the 70s: “I hate to say this, but his rest is plotting revenge. Really, that’s him. I wanna take the time machine back to what I have seen in him. I have known him since the late 70s when I used to see him backstage at the WWWF President Willie Gilzenberg and Vince McMahon Sr, his dad. You could always see him looking for angles. And I don’t mean only wrestling angles. Business angles to do something. There was always this sense of, ‘Well, I like it this way. I know what my dad and Mr. Gilzenberg are thinking, but I’d like it this way.'”

On Vince McMahon wanting to make WWE even bigger: “And I think little by little, as I got to know him, I saw more and more this sensibility coming from him that we can’t be small like this. We can’t be a territory. We need to break out; we need to be bigger. I think in his mind, as big as the company is, it could be even bigger at this point.”

Comparing Vince McMahon to Stephanie McMahon: “She’s very charming on the camera. She did many things to help charities and women through the company. She always had that charming personality that Vince never showed to the public, that he may show to his grandchildren and stuff like that. But I saw Vince backstage; he was charming at times. Stephanie, some of the people who worked with her said she was very hard to deal with, but I never saw that. Any time I saw her at the shows, she was extremely giving to the people she was working with; she was business-like. But you knew she wasn’t going to chew your head off like her father might.”
