In a recent chat with Miles Schneiderman of Wrestling Inc, Damage CTRL’s Dakota Kai revealed that following Sasha Banks and Naomi’s walkout from WWE, she had never heard rumors of them returning to the company backstage, despite whatever was swirling around on the dirt sheets. She said,
“We didn’t get told anything of this or about that. I think that it was just like people taking things and making them, maybe something they weren’t, but at the other side, I don’t really know the business. I feel like I’m just like, ‘I’ll do my job and it’s fine,’ but they’ve been killing it, doing what they’re doing right now … But I had no idea. I was like, ‘I don’t know where this is going.’”
Since Banks and Naomi relinquished the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships, Dakota Kai and IYO SKY have carried the women’s tag team division in WWE, having won the titles twice. On WrestleMania 39 (Night One), Damage CTRL faced Becky Lynch, Lita, and Trish Stratus in a six-woman tag team match in a losing effort.
While Banks, now going by Mercedes Mone, is the reigning IWGP Women’s Champion in New Japan Pro Wrestling, Naomi recently became a free agent as well.
