The January 2006 segment saw Edge and Lita celebrate the former’s first WWE Championship victory with a ‘sex celebration’ in a bed in the center of the ring.
The segment was interrupted by both Ric Flair and John Cena, with John delivering an AA to Lita.
During the ‘Stories with Brisco and Bradshaw‘ podcast, former WWE writer Christopher DeJoseph recalled how the idea was forged:
“Edge had just won the title from John Cena and cashed in the Money in the Bank. We were in a meeting with Vince and he said, ‘Well what would you do if you won the title and you’re Edge?’ and I said, ‘I would have sex with my girlfriend in the middle of the ring for everybody to see.’ So that’s kind of how that live sex celebration thing happened.”
Edge’s reign as Champion would be short-lived as he would lose the title weeks later back to Cena at the 2006 Royal Rumble.
