John Cena’s SmackDown Booking Last Week Was “Very Carefully Done”

John Cena returned to SmackDown last week to wrestle his first match since SummerSlam 2021. Cena teamed up with Kevin Owens to take on Sami Zayn and Roman Reigns. Cena and Owens came out victorious after KO pinned the Honorary Uce.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that Cena’s booking was “very carefully done.” The idea was to make sure that Cena was protected. The match was hyped heavily during NFL games on FOX, so the idea was that Cena would look strong and hit his finish. They made sure to limit his time in the ring to hide any “ring rust” he might have had.
