During Jon Moxley’s recent appearance on “The Wade Keller Pro Wrestling Podcast”, the former Dean Ambrose commented on his Wrestlemania match with Brock Lesnar.
Jon Moxley reveals the original scheduled matches for Wrestlemania 32 were Brock Lesnar vs Bray Wyatt and Dean Ambrose vs Chris Jericho. Prior to the event Ambrose went off script during a promo and got in Brock’s face resulting in fans wanting to see them in a match.
“So now we are gonna go to me and Brock, Me doing my thing my way made it to where people wanted to see this match so now I earned this match”
He would go on to bring up the segments involving Mick Foley and Terry Funk, saying now that it’s booked “it’s back to goofball city”. “Mick Foley gave me a barbed wire baseball bat that I’m never gonna get to use”, Moxley recalled.
Jon Moxley said the company gave him enough to give him the match but not to make it a hot angle. All of his ideas were ignored in the weeks leading to the event. He would say it was as if Lesnar didn’t even want to be there. Brock thought he was doing enough for Ambrose by having the match with him.
”At Wrestlemania you have like rehearsals, they have rings in the hotel so you don’t have to do it on the day of. You put together your match and kinda try stuff out because everybody wants to steal the show at Mania, you put in maximum effort.
During the week you have scheduled rehearsals. We have one scheduled rehearsal at like 11 pm Saturday night the day before the show at the stadium. He never even came to the hotel he didn’t get in til’ late Saturday night. We end up not even doing that because he’s like we don’t need to do that”
Jon Moxley would say that a conference call took place where he layed all his ideas out again, with Brock’s response being “I mean I don’t think we need all that stuff, all that extra gimmick stuff it’s just simple story. Look we go to suplex city, you get your hands on a weapon, you know your comeback”.
“We start talking about the match for the first time while like the second match is going on, i think it was a ladder match. We don’t have a finish, he doesn’t want me kicking out of multiple F-5s, and like at Wrestlemania everybody kicks out of like five F-5s cause he only does German (suplex) and a F-5.
Here’s a list of the pitched ideas:
- to flip off Lesnar while being choked out after being thrown into thumb tacks
- a finish similar to what we saw in Lesnar’s match against Randy Orton at Summerslam 2016
- he could spray Lesnar in his eyes with mace at the start of the match before attacking him with weapons
- start using a heel hook/ankle lock submission before WrestleMania 32 and train at a gym owned by Lesnar’s former UFC rival Frank Mir
Jon Moxley felt if Lesnar would have put in a little bit of effort, they could have stole the show.
