Kevin Owens has said that John Cena wanted to remind him of his love of wrestling, with a 1 AM text message.
Owens debuted on WWE’s main roster in 2015 by confronting Cena, leading to a series of pay-per-view matches between the two men.
Speaking about his bitter rival turned friend on the Cheap Heat podcast, Owens discussed his interactions with the 16-time WWE World Champion. He said,
“We text here and there, but it’s really silly stuff. He’s very excited. In fact, the last text I got from him was ‘I LOVE WRESTLING’ in all caps, unprompted. I think it was like 1 a.m. too. I have no clue. I don’t really know where he was in the world.”
Cena and Owens will team together to face Roman Reigns and Sami Zayn on next week’s episode of WWE SmackDown on FOX.
The match will be Cena’s first and only match of 2022 and continue his streak of having at least one match every year since his main roster debut in 2002.
