The debut of Satnam Singh at the end of this week’s AEW Dynamite has received a mixed response from those working in the company.
Singh debuted by attacking new ROH World Television Champion Samoa Joe who won the title from Minoru Suzuki.
Fightful Select notes that multiple AEW talents did not think Singh’s debut was executed well, with the ‘lights off lights on’ approach to his debut being heavily criticized.
The consensus is that this kind of debut should be reserved for shocking debuts of established wrestlers, something Singh is not.
Singh’s main event debut was reportedly part of Tony Khan’s plan to boost AEW’s audience in India, ahead of WarnerMedia’s merger with Discovery.
One source indicated that if accelerating the growth in India would help their salary when it comes time for contract renewal negotiations, then they’re willing to accept a bad debut.
