Tony Khan: Sting Had Much More Than WWE Would Allow Him To Do

Tony Khan is thrilled that Sting is doing well in AEW after a somewhat underwhelming run with WWE.

The Icon made his long-awaited WWE debut in late 2014, and competed four times the following year.

After an injury suffered at Night of Champions 2015, Sting would retire from wrestling and would only compete again after joining AEW.

Speaking with D Magazine, Khan spoke about the Icon’s underwhelming WWE run. He said,

“He definitely had a lot more to offer than he’d be asked or allowed to show. To know that a wrestling company could have somebody like Sting—or really, specifically, Sting himself, because there’s nobody like Sting—under contract, and he would want to work, and they wouldn’t want to use him, it makes no sense to me.”

Sting’s most recent match saw himself and Darby Allin defeat Jay Lethal and Jeff Jarrett at AEW Full Gear 2022 last November.
