Undertaker Jobbing Last Night was Best For Business

First I’d like to say, I’m a hardcore guy. I am not a fan of the PG era. However I think i could deal with it if the writing was entertaining. Since Summerslam, I’ve gradually watched more and more WWE after some time away. The reason? Daniel Bryan. It doesn’t matter if things just got so far out of control they had to change the booking, or if it was masterful booking by the writers. The key was however, you weren’t really sure at any point where the booking was going (most likely because they didn’t know either).

Then things came to a head on March 10th. From that point on the storyline became predictable.
Now on to why I really wrote this story. Wrestlemania 30. On paper it was really not very good. I wasn’t excited at all. You had a thrown together 4 way tag match, a Battle Royal full of jobbers and people with no story lines, a match that’s sole purpose was to see The Shield as babyfaces, the predictable 2 Daniel Bryan matches, a Diva’s match that was…. ummmm not going to be a  match of the year candidate, and Undertaker’s Streak with so little build, that Brock Lesnar looked like Iron Mike Sharpe.
For the most part, Wrestlemania 30 went exactly as planned. Then The Undertaker came out. I already thought he looked old in the Pre-Mania hype, but when his robe came off, I was shocked. (I hadn’t seen him wrestle for almost 4 years) I was praying for Sting to show up and beat Undertaker silly and make the match not happen. How in the world did they expect any of us to buy into Taker beating Lesnar?  Now we know they didn’t. I see other people complaining about the build of the feud up to WMXXX and the thought crossed my mind, but was dismissed right away, that the build was great. Just not for an Undertaker win.
The story wasn’t the streak being extended to 22-0. The story all along was The Beast ending The Streak. The more you think about it, a Brock Lesnar win last night, was what’s best for business. No longer do you have the match where you “know” the outcome. No longer do the writers have to come up with how do we make The Undertaker seem vulnerable. The weakest link at Wrestlemania has been broken. Next year when we see Sting vs Undertaker, it can be epic. The ending isn’t already set in stone. The Undertaker should still win, but the playing field isn’t stacked with headlines like: ” Can Sting End the Streak? Or will The Undertaker go 23-0.” This all assumes The Undertaker ever wrestles again. He didn’t look good last night and while i would love to see him against Sting, I don’t want to see him look bad in the process.
