The following is from our play-by-play coverage of the WWE NXT TakeOver: XXV event:
NXT Champion Johnny Gargano vs. Adam Cole
They did some technical wrestling early on. Gargano hit a dive of the apron. Back in the ring, Gargano locked in the texas cloverleaf. Cole got out of it and Gargano jumped to the second rope only to have Cole take out his leg. Cole worked over the right knee of the champion. Cole went for a dive off the top rope but Gargano caught him with a powerbomb. They trade right hands then
Gargano hit a clothesline and suplex followed by a head kick then another one in the corner. Gargano with a spring board DDT for 2. Gargano with a spring board spear. Gargano went for a spring board move but Cole caught him with a reverse code breaker. They hit a double clothesline and trade super kicks. Gargano with a DDT as Cole was going for a spring board dive. Cole sent him to the floor and hit a back breaker then a neck breaker in the ring for 2.
Gargano locked in the Gargano Lock but Cole got out of it and started working over his right knee again. Gargano went for a dive and Cole avoided it. Cole hit the Canadian Destroyer on the floor. Back in the ring, Gargano kicked out. Cole locked in the Gargano Lock but Gargano got out of it. Gargano with a running knee strike for 2. Gargano with a reverse hurricanrana but Cole with a knee strike to Gargano’s head for 2. Cole went and grabbed a chair but Gargano accidentally took out the referee with a dive.
Cole missed a chair shot and Gargano kicked him in the face. Back in the ring, Gargano went for the pinefall but there’s no referee. Gargano locked in the Gargano Lock but Cole fought out with elbow strikes. Cole with a series of kicks. Cole with the Canadian Destroyer then his finisher for the win. Â
Winner: Adam Cole – NEW Champion
