Being released from WWE is rarely fun, but for Jinder Mahal, it was the best thing to happen to the Modern-Day Maharaja in 2014.

Mahal was among those cut from the promotion alongside 3MB ally Drew McIntyre, Evan Bourne, Brodus Clay, Teddy Long, Curt Hawkins, and JTG, among others.

On a recent edition of the “Insight” podcast, Mahal reflected on being cut from WWE and the motivation the setback provided him. He said,

“Looking back, being released was probably the best thing that happened to me. In all fairness, I wouldn’t have got as motivated or changed my mindset as much, ’cause getting released, like, you reflect, getting that second opportunity, having that appreciation for that second run … I had become complacent when I was in 3MB, just phoning it in. Not putting in the best effort which is absolutely wrong, especially in WWE because you can’t take this career or time in WWE for granted.”

Mahal would be rehired by WWE in 2016 and would capture the WWE Championship the next year. He was released from WWE for the second time earlier this month.
