Following his victory over Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40, Cody Rhodes was given a special gift – his father’s precious Rolex watch.
The emotional moment was captured on video and can now be viewed online.
During the post-WrestleMania 40 press conference, Rhodes revealed that WWE executives Triple H, Bruce Prichard, and Nick Khan gifted him the watch backstage.
The Rolex watch holds sentimental value as it once belonged to Cody’s father, late WWE Hall of Famer Dusty Rhodes, who had to pawn it to support his son’s acting school education.
Rhodes said the following during the presser, “I know this isn’t what you asked, but something I wanted to share. I came to the back and Bruce Prichard and Triple H, and Nick Khan handed me this [watch], which is the same watch that my dad had, that he pawned so I could go to acting school. So the level of investment and responsibility that the company put in my hands? I hope that I can pay it back and pay it forward 100 times over.”
Rhodes defeated Reigns to win the Undisputed WWE Universal Title in the main event of WrestleMania XL (Night Two).
