Author’s POV, Running Commentary & Thoughts:

Zero Hour

  • Despite a start time of noon, they actually started earlier for some video packages.
  • Just before noon, a little bonus segment happened with Grado hitting Jeff Jarrett with a guitar.
  • Kip Sabian and Renee Paquette are hosting the panel to talk about the card.
  • Time for the ROH tag title match. This crowd is pumped to get the action started.
  • Hey!!! We have new champions! MJF and Adam Cole win with the double clothesline.
  • Mercedes Moné is showed to be in the crowd.
  • For the FTW title match, Jack Perry entered with a limo, which has immediately become an environment for he and Hook to slam each other on top of.
  • “You know what this is? Real glass. Cry me a river.” says Jack Perry before he’s suplexed on top of the limo’s windshield.
  • Perry taps out! New FTW champion!

“Real World Championship” Match: CM Punk vs. Samoa Joe

  • Punk manages to avoid the “Joe walks away” spot. Pretty soon after that, he falls victim to it, though.
  • Joe’s having some fun playing around ringside. He manages to swing Punk’s head into and through the bottom part of the commentary table. Punk’s now bleeding.
  • Crowd boos Punk biting Joe’s head, leading into a Pepsi Plunge for the win. Punk retains his “title” by pinfall.
  • Apparently, prior to the match, Punk got into some altercation backstage with Jack Perry. Let’s see what happens as a result of that.

Trios Match: The Golden Elite (Kenny Omega, Kota Ibushi and Hangman Adam Page) vs. Bullet Club Gold (Jay White and Juice Robinson) and Konosuke Takeshita

  • This has potential to steal the show. I’m excited for this one.
  • Mostly standard back-and-forth action here. Nothing stands out, but it’s solid.
  • Hot tag to Hangman. It’s nice to see him getting that spot considering I figured it would be Omega more so that the match would hinge on.
  • Crowd’s excited for Omega vs Takeshita.
  • The Gunns interfere and offset Hangman, which makes him wait too long for a Buckshot Lariat attempt.
  • A minute or so later, Hangman gets one to Takeshita from behind and that starts the collection of “everyone hits their signature moves” series.
  • Takeshita gets a roll-up on Omega for the pin out of that distraction and wins for his team.

AEW World Tag Team Championship Match: FTR (c) vs. The Young Bucks

  • What music were The Young Bucks coming out to at first? I could barely hear it. No energy behind it. That was awkward.
  • Oh, this is supposed to be a Freddie Mercury tribute with their ring gear.
  • Very even offense so far. Crowd seems to be split, but pro both teams at the same time.
  • Admittedly, I’m underwhelmed. This is fine, but it’s nothing special. Both teams are capable of so much better.
  • They’re very much doing the even split where almost every spot sees 1 member of The Young Bucks and 1 member of FTR being taken out at the same time. 50/50 the entire time. Even with splashes where people get their knees up.
  • “This is awesome” chant from the audience.
  • The pace is picking up and this match is getting better.
  • Shatter Machine doesn’t seal the deal for FTR.
  • Wheeler kicks out of a superkick not too long after that.
  • BTE Trigger for a two-count.
  • Bucks hit a Shatter Machine and then a BTE Trigger, followed by another two-count.
  • FTR gets a Shatter Machine and the pinfall to retain.
  • Much better in the second half than the first half. Certainly not going on my Match of the Year list.
  • Young Bucks neglect showing their respect to FTR after the match.

Stadium Stampede Match: Eddie Kingston, Penta El Zero Miedo, and Best Friends (Orange Cassidy, Trent Beretta and Chuck Taylor) vs. Blackpool Combat Club (Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, Wheeler Yuta), Santana and Ortiz

  • I really hope they don’t do the Wild Thing gag for 10 minutes this time. Oh thank God, they didn’t.
  • How long into this match before Moxley starts bleeding?
  • Apparently not too long.
  • Ouch…skewer spot with Penta bashing a few into Moxley’s skull.
  • Orange Cassidy goes for his lackluster kicks. Moxley attacks him with a fork to the head.
  • Sue is here with her van! She has some baked goods on cookie sheets that are used by Best Friends.
  • Penta is back out with red ring gear as Penta Oscuro.
  • While setting up for a spot, the ladder collapsed. Penta went ahead and re-climbed it and pulled off the sunset flip powerbomb anyway.
  • Claudio is swinging Orange while people are just going through tables and being slammed on Legos on the outside.
  • Cassidy hits a few Orange Punches on Castagnoli, but even the 3 of them aren’t enough.
  • Orange duct tapes his hand and puts broken glass on it. Moxley takes a DDT in the pile of glass. Claudio hits an uppercut on Cassidy.
  • Kingston is back out from the back, wielding a barbed wire steel chair.
  • Cassidy gets the win with the Orange Punch covered in glass, pinning Castagnoli.
  • Great match!

AEW Women’s World Championship Four-Way Match: Hikaru Shida (c) vs. Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. vs. Saraya vs. Toni Storm

  • Saraya is coming out to We Will Rock You and has her family with her.
  • LOL Nigel McGuinness throwing out some zingers with “How distracting must it be for a dentist to be here in England?” That might end up being the best jab of the segment.
  • Saraya’s mom held Britt Baker back, and Toni Storm went for a shot but blasted her instead. Now, Storm and Saraya are going at it as a result.
  • Ruby Soho is out to try to restore some unity. She quickly fails and storms off.
  • Called this from a mile away, but Saraya gets the pin to win the belt and celebrate in the ring with her family.

Tag Team Coffin Match: Darby Allin and Sting vs. Christian Cage and Swerve Strickland

  • I’ve never liked Joker Sting, despite Joker being my favorite villain in fiction and also being a fan of Sting. But hey, if he’s having fun, go for it.
  • The casket has been graffiti tagged “Swerve’s house” which is a nice touch.
  • Crowd goes nuts for Sting jumping butt-first on top of Swerve to crash through a table. “You’ve still got it” chants erupt.
  • Luchasaurus comes to the rescue to save Christian from being locked in the coffin. He then throws Darby into it, leaving a dent.
  • Nick Wayne hits Luchasaurus in the back with a skateboard, but it doesn’t do anything to him. Luchasaurus drops him, then chokeslams him on the skateboard.
  • Sting no-sells a chair shot from Swerve (which broke up a Scorpion Deathlock on Christian).
  • Christian low-blows Sting with the baseball bat, which is effective. Swerve follows it up with a double stomp from the top rope.
  • Sting uses the bat to block the coffin from sealing shut.
  • Swerve got sandwiched between the lid of the casket. Darby hit a Coffin Drop and placed him in there for the win.

Chris Jericho vs. Will Ospreay

  • Very cool for Jericho to be singing himself to the ring. I’d appreciate a little more energy to it, though.
  • Story of the match so far is very much (as it should be) Ospreay as the young hot shot who has more stamina.
  • Jericho licks the blood off his chest.
  • Ospreay is so good. He really is a top of the line performer in the business right now. If Tony Khan doesn’t fork out all the money to sign him in a few months, WWE better snatch him up.
  • Ospreay’s locked in the Walls of Jericho. Don Callis is trying to interfere, but in that distraction, Sammy Guevara nails Ospreay in the head. Ospreay fights out of the hold.
  • Will Ospreay kicked out at barely a 1-count and then hulked up. He’s coming across more like the babyface now at this point. As I type that, Jericho distracts ref Aubrey Edwards and low-blows Ospreay with a kick from behind. Judas Effect. Two-count.
  • Ospreay gets the win after a Hidden Blade and a second Stormbreaker.
  • After the match, Guevara helps Jericho up and tries to get the crowd to clap for him. Jericho just pushes Sammy away and walks off.

Nigel McGuinness is in the ring to announce 81,035 in attendance.

AEW World Trios Championship No Holds Barred Match: House of Black vs. The Acclaimed and Billy Gunn

  • House of Black brought a lantern to the start of their entrance as a tribute to Bray Wyatt. Respectful move.
  • Max Caster’s rap wasn’t as biting as I hoped for, but he took shots at the royal family and Harry Potter. No “scissor me, Daddy Ass” since he’s Bad Ass Billy Gunn tonight.
  • The stipulation for this will be No Holds Barred.
  • Julia Hart got triple-teamed by The Acclaimed and Billy Gunn.
  • Random shot of Mercedes Mone in the crowd, again. I wonder why they felt the need to switch over to her now.
  • Gunn hits a Famouser and has the win in his hands, but Julia Hart pulls ref Aubrey away to break it up.
  • House of Black gets back in charge, but Gunn hangs in there and kicks out.
  • Caster hits a Mic Drop elbow for a near-fall on Brody King.
  • Another Famouser. Another slam from Bowens and another Mic Drop and we have new champions!
  • House of Black yank the belts away, and then, hand them over respectfully. Bowens gets a mic and says despite it being Bad Ass Billy Gunn tonight, the crowd deserves a “scissor me, Daddy Ass” to celebrate.

AEW World Championship Match: MJF (c) vs. Adam Cole

  • MJF has a fun entrance on a throne with his devil mask and some ladies worshiping the ground he walks on.
  • Naturally, they’re hamming up the best buddies aspect at the start of this. Inevitably, it’s going to break down.
  • MJF appears to be more of the babyface to the crowd, from my perspective.
  • Cole is now yelling at him that they’re friends, but he’s better than him; getting frustrated. MJF’s been playing up to the crowd more for sure.
  • There’s a sequence of pin reversals, ending overall with MJF powerbombing Cole onto his knee. Ouch.
  • MJF gets his foot on the ropes to break up a pin from a Heatseeker.
  • Cole drops MJF with a Brainbuster off the steel steps.
  • MJF barely gets back into the ring at a 9 ¾ count.
  • “You’ve got to do this for the title, Max. You have to do it.” – MJF tells himself, ready to give Cole a tombstone through the commentary table, but he backs off and can’t bring himself to do it.
  • Cole then gives MJF a tombstone on top of the desk, showing he’s willing to do it. The crowd erupts with an “asshole” chant. But MJF kicks out from the pinfall attempt.
  • Both men are laid out, and they fall with their arms on top of each other. Double pin! Ref Bryce Remsburg rules it a draw. The crowd is super upset, as is Adam Cole, who grabs a microphone and says “No freakin’ way. Max…five more minutes!”
  • MJF says “No. Five minutes isn’t enough, Adam. We’re going until we got a winner in f*ckin Wembley!” The match restarts!
  • After a few roll-up attempts, Cole knocks into Remsburg. Referee is down. MJF is laughing and goes for a steel chair.
  • MJF and Cole keep throwing the steel chair back and forth between each other. Cole falls down to try to play the victim, so MJF places the chair on his neck and lays down to one-up him.
  • Remsburg comes to and argues with Cole. MJF uses that distraction for a roll-up, but only gets a two-count. Friedman hits a Heatseeker of his own for another two-count.
  • Cole lays out MJF with a German suplex on the ring apron. He follows it up with a Panama Sunrise on the floor.
  • MJF pulls Remsburg into the way and Bryce ends up taking a Panama Sunrise instead of MJF!
  • The Dynamite Diamond Ring is on MJF’s finger…but MJF is conflicted. He decides to put it away.
  • Behind him, Roderick Strong low-blows MJF! Cole asks what Roddy’s doing, but then uses the opportunity for a Panama Sunrise anyway. He follows it with a knee and a pinfall, but Remsburg is only just stirring. Super slow count. One…two….kick out!
  • Strong pleads with Cole that he’s his best friend and he’s trying to help. Cole sends him away. MJF uses that distraction for a roll-up and scores the pin to retain!!
  • Awesome main event. Great ending to this show.
  • MJF tries to console Cole and talk about how the fans in attendance still love him. He grabs the tag titles and says “We still have these, buddy” only for Cole to toss them aside angrily. MJF then flips out that it’s clear Cole only cared about the title, so if that’s what he wants, just take it (and he throws the belt at Cole). He then turns his back and says for Cole to “just do it”, and Cole teases hitting him with the belt, but throws it down. Roderick Strong is telling Cole to do it. But Cole and MJF just hug it out instead.
  • Cole holds up MJF’s hand as confetti falls and fireworks go off.
  • Excalibur announced that AEW is going to have another All In at Wembley on August 25, 2024.
