Author’s POV, Running Commentary & Thoughts:
Kickoff – Sami Zayn vs. JD McDonagh
- Sami Zayn was taking long enough on his entrance that I started to think they were going to go with an angle of someone attacking him backstage, to be honest.
- Byron Saxton is going ring announcer work today. That’s interesting.
- Why is JD McDonagh still not a true member of The Judgment Day? Ridiculous.
- Crowd is going crazy for Sami Zayn, particularly after he won. This was a pretty basic match that you’d see on any other night. Nothing special, but the audience was digging it, so I guess it served its purpose for that audience.
World Heavyweight Championship Match: Seth Rollins (c) vs. Drew McIntyre
- I’m not at all surprised this is opening the show. Not only does WWE keep trying to pitch this idea that the opening match is “another main event”, but it’s funny that they just do not try to make this title feel as important as Roman’s. It’s hilarious that if they’re asked, they act like it’s an equivalent, but we all know that if they could be honest, they would say “Well, I mean, we had to have a title that could change hands, cause we’re keeping that on Reigns until he breaks certain records, but yeah, it’s the third most important of our 3 world titles.”
- We’re 10 minutes into this event (past the hour long pre-show) and there hasn’t even been an entrance of these two. The pacing of this program has been awful.
- Snooooooozzze. This match is doing nothing for me. I’m mentally checked out of this event already and I’m starting to doubt that anything is going to bring me back to being invested. This just feels like a do-nothing event.
- Rollins kicking out of a Claymore was the most exciting thing so far.
- Rollins retained by pinfall.
- Damian Priest is coming out with the Money in the Bank briefcase…but Sami Zayn just attacked him, stole the briefcase and ran off.
Backstage, Rhea Ripley shrugged to McIntyre, as if to say “I told you that you needed The Judgment Day’s help.”
Women’s World Championship Fatal 5-Way Match: Rhea Ripley (c) vs. Nia Jax vs. Raquel Rodriguez vs. Shayna Baszler vs. Zoey Stark
- In typical fashion, the women’s outfits look kind of ridiculous. That goes double for Shayna Baszler’s karate gi that she took the top off from, so she has those pants along with a long sleeve black top.
- Rhea Ripley’s being given an entrance with some guys holding containers of incense or something. At least Ripley’s rocking her look.
- Some sloppy spots here with their attempts to have reversals. It either wasn’t choreographed well, or their timing is off.
- Even the big moves, like Raquel hitting a Tejana Bomb on Nia, was messy.
- Ripley hitting a Riptide from the ropes to land on top of Raquel, who was covering Shayna, was also awkward. Raquel was crawling too slowly, so Rhea just had to stand there with Zoey on the turnbuckle to wait.
- At least the match is over now and Ripley retained.
John Cena vs. Solo Sikoa
- Cena vs. Umaga was better back in the day. I like Solo Sikoa, but he’s not at that level to me yet, and Cena’s game is off compared to when he was in his prime, so this just isn’t doing anything for me, either.
- This whole event has been nothing but bland in my eyes.
- Cena can’t fully execute the five moves of doom.
- At least the big jewel above the ring looks cool.
- Crossbody from Cena gets the crowd to chant “You’ve still got it.”
- Solo Sikoa got the win after I believe it was his eleventh Samoan Spike.
MizTV Segment
- I have no idea who Ibrahim Al Hajjaj is. But this is for the Saudi Arabia crowd and audience, as this is a paid show, so they’re just pandering to that whole political situation. It’s not supposed to really mean anything for you and I.
- Out comes Grayson Waller. He’s going to get his ass kicked by Ibrahim, isn’t he? At least have The Miz take him out instead (but that’s likely asking for too much, as they always do this type of stuff with celebrities).
- Since The Miz is babyface now (wild), Waller is saying The Grayson Waller Effect is more important than MizTV. Al Hajjaj says MizTV is the hottest talk show in WWE, instead of siding with Waller.
- Waller kicks Ibrahim, then eats a boot by The Miz. Miz tosses Waller into Ibrahim, who kicks Waller, then gives Waller a Skull Crushing Finale. Ibrahim then does a People’s Elbow to Waller, since everyone is stuck in the Attitude Era and they just want to be The Rock.
United States Championship Match: Rey Mysterio (c) vs. Logan Paul
- Logan Paul gets his special entrance of riding in on some kind of ATV type thing. I don’t know anything about that stuff to say what type of vehicle that is. Drop a comment and enlighten me on that.
- I’m expecting a title change. Nothing at all has happened on this show, so the belt changing hands would at least make for some news.
- Logan Paul continues to show in each match that he just gets it. Say what you will about the man himself (and I’m not a fan of him outside of the ring), but he’s athletic as hell and genuinely more fun to watch than most of the wrestlers on either AEW or WWE’s rosters.
- I can’t tell if Paul caught Mysterio just in time to help Rey from landing on his head, or if he failed to catch him in time and nearly resulted in Rey landing on his head. Either great job on Paul for thinking that fast and saving him, or it’s the total opposite and he needs to be quicker.
- One of Logan Paul’s goons is out. Santos Escobar stops him from interfering. But Escobar foolishly puts the brass knuckles back onto the apron, allowing Paul to grab it, hit Mysterio and win the title. I like that ending, as it can lead to some tension between Rey and Santos.
Women’s Championship Match: Iyo Sky (c) vs. Bianca Belair
- After just seeing that title change, I’m convinced Iyo is retaining. We’ll see.
- The story of this match has been Iyo working Bianca’s leg to take out her footing so she can’t get the KOD. Smart.
- Back and forth. Crowd doesn’t seem as invested. Maybe they’re all tired.
- Bayley is out. Bianca has to deal with her now. Iyo accidentally landed on Bayley on the outside. Bayley’s still helping Iyo, though. Of course, why is this not a disqualification?
- Here’s Kairi Sane! Kairi is going after Bianca Belair.
- Belair barely makes the 10-count, but Iyo hits a moonsault right after and retains by pinfall.
- Very glad to see Kairi back in WWE. Very cool.
- Bayley is giving off “WTF?” vibes while Kairi and Iyo celebrate together in the ring.
Cody Rhodes vs. Damian Priest
- I hate nights like this where a match between two of my favorites on the roster, like this, means nothing to me, because the match isn’t even for the briefcase, it has zero stakes, the feud’s been going on long enough that I just want it to end and they’ve exhausted all my interest in it, and everything for this particular event has bored me into not wanting to watch it anymore. Suffice it to say, this match is going to need to do something very soon to hook me, or I’m probably going to be 50% tuned out.
- I don’t remember how long ago I typed that first bullet point, but that’s because I’ve indeed been bored. They’re not doing anything BAD. It’s just all bland. I’ve seen this on Raw every week for like 3 months.
- Finn Balor and Dominik Mysterio naturally found their way to the ring. Jey Uso came to the rescue to offset their interference.
- 3 Cross Rhodes for the win. Cody’s victorious. Thank you for tuning in to the main event of Monday Night Raw, on pay-per-view.
Undisputed WWE Universal Championship Match: Roman Reigns (c) vs. LA Knight
- Should I just already switch the quick hits results up above to “Roman Reigns defeated LA Knight by pinfall” and say that he won via interference from Jimmy Uso and Solo Sikoa after the referee took a bump? That’s what happens in every one of his matches, after all.
- Generic match. Nothing that stands out. At all.
- Time for Solo Sikoa on the aisle while Jimmy Uso is dragging Roman out of the ring. LA Knight will take out Jimmy, cause Jimmy is the whipping boy right now, and Solo will then make the difference, right? Well, there goes Jimmy.
- Surprisingly, LA Knight kicked out of a spear.
- Jimmy puts Roman’s leg on the ropes to save him from a pinfall after a BFT.
- Reigns retains after another spear. Same old formula. Snooze.
