Author’s POV, Running Commentary & Thoughts:

  • I love the set!
  • Even better, I absolutely love the use of the old school intro! They’ve got some of the production music they used to use back in the day, the “revolutionary force” beginning and everything…this is so good!
  • Dok Hendrix, Todd Pettengill, the set, the crowd, the intro…this is great already.

Winners Take All Match – North American and NXT Tag Team Championship

  • Big fan of how the two teams have matching colors. The ring gear is on point.
  • Good series of everyone jumping to the outside.
  • While nothing super crazy is going on, I’m enjoying this match top to bottom.
  • Well there we go for something noteworthy, with Reed tackling Escobar through the barricade!
  • Rock solid opener.

Mercedes Martinez vs. Xia Li

  • Xia Li’s got some new weaponry for her entrance and some more Mortal Kombat / Street Fighter looking gear. Pretty bad ass!
  • Ouch. The tumble to the outside at the start of the match looked like one of those things that wasn’t the most complicated, but probably hurt more than some other maneuvers.
  • The ending was weak, unfortunately. Everything leading up to that was decent, though.
  • This stuff with the chair totally has to set up some involvement from Mei Ying.
  • There she is. Let’s see what she’s capable of.
  • Okay. All she really did was sink her claw into Martinez’s neck and then toss her into the barricade. Better than nothing, but I was hoping for a little more.

Million Dollar Championship Ladder Match

  • I like the touch of having the title in the glass briefcase. It gives it an extra flair of prestige.
  • Nice hurricanrana from Grimes. I didn’t see that coming.
  • These two are working stiff! LA Knight is tossing these ladders like he wants to kill Grimes. They’re pulling that all off very well.
  • I dig the gold and gem-encrusted ladder. Some intern spent a lot of time doing that, I’m sure, but it’s worth it for something extra.
  • OOOF! Every time I see someone flung off a ladder and they fall back into another ladder, I wince.
  • Great match, and I’m actually glad LA Knight won. I’d have been happy either way, but I started rooting for him even more during the match.

NXT Women’s Championship Match

  • The crowd kind of died. At least at the start of this, I’m not hearing much of a peep.
  • People are waking up a bit, thankfully.
  • Raquel definitely continues to improve. A few years back, she was a struggle to watch, but she’s getting better with each match.
  • I don’t see the point in maneuvers where you run the ropes just to stop dead in your tracks and then do a move that didn’t require moving from your original spot, like what Moon just did, but whatever.
  • Nice roll-through out of the one-armed powerbomb.
  • I’m surprised about Moon almost getting the win with that Eclipse. I didn’t think they’d put Gonzalez in a spot where she only retained because Dakota Kai put her foot on the rope for her. Then again, it leads to Shotzi Blackheart coming out to brawl with Kai (and shove her into the garden around the house set, ha) so I guess that’s the priority. It shows Shotzi is back.
  • Better than I had anticipated, if I’m being honest.

Todd Pettengill against Dexter Lumis in some Karate Fighters! Nice!

It was announced The Great American Bash is returning on Tuesday, July 6th. Also, Kushida will have another open challenge for the Cruiserweight Championship this Tuesday to accompany the scheduled Tornado Tag Team Match between Timothy Thatcher and Tommaso Ciampa against Grizzled Young Veterans.

NXT Championship Fatal 5-Way Match

  • There aren’t many moments I can pinpoint on this to talk about, but I’ve been enjoying all of it.
  • There’s a moment: Kross going through the door of the set. That was neat.
  • I’m not feeling like this is close to the end yet, but I have a feeling in a few minutes, I’ll be buying into every near-fall. I legitimately don’t know who is going to win this!
  • Big fan of the combo maneuvers (Cole superkicks Dunne who gets a hurricanrana, for example) And I just noticed that Peacock has the rewind capability! Wooo!
  • One of the biggest highlights of this match is how these four guys work so well together with Kross out of the mix. They’re just trading blows back and forth and countering each other left and right.
  • Haha! Dunne jumps to the top rope, flips back and eats two superkicks. I always thought moments like that were funny.
  • Kross kicks out of the Bitter End. Nice. Are we going to see him kick out of everyone’s finishers, one by one, before losing, maybe?
  • Kross has his fingers snapped by Dunne, takes a Last Shot from Cole, a knee from O’Reilly. It’s starting to look like the end might be near.
  • I’m pretty shocked, to be honest. I didn’t expect O’Reilly to pass out and that to be the end of the match, with Kross retaining. Very, very curious what the future of the title scene is, now that Kross has beaten everyone. Great match, though!

After the match, William Regal spoke very somberly to McKenzie Mitchell and said after seven years, he’s never seen such bedlam and madness and he thinks it’s time for a change. Hm…
