Author’s POV, Running Commentary & Thoughts:

Kickoff

  • I really liked Peter Rosenberg giving a bit of a backstage tour of the Gorilla position and such. That was cool.
  • The rest of the pre-show has been uneventful, as expected.
  • Nothing else to talk about. Enjoy the show!!!

America the Beautiful is performed tonight by Jimmie Allen. Kevin Hart is back for another cold open intro. The Miz and Snoop Dogg are back out for an opening promo again, too.

Brock Lesnar vs. Omos

  • Does this go longer than 3 minutes? Maybe not. The intros are going to be longer than the match, I’m assuming.
  • Omos is dominating with bear hugs and bodyslams.
  • But eventually, Brock is able to hit a few German suplexes, despite the size of Omos.
  • He can’t get Omos up for an F-5 at first, since his back’s been focused on. But on the second attempt, he gets it, and that’s your match.
  • Did you expect anything more intricate? If so, you haven’t been watching Lesnar the past 10 years.

Women’s WrestleMania Showcase Fatal 4-Way Tag Team Match: Chelsea Green and Sonya Deville vs. Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez vs. Natalya and Shotzi vs. Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler

  • Not even the normal tank entrance for Shotzi, let alone a more special version of it? Lame.
  • As expected, not only is this not coming close to the showcase match from yesterday, but three moves in, we already have a botch.
  • Within another two minutes or so, there are a handful of other botches, too.
  • There are some talented Superstars here, but let’s not just play nice and inflate the value. This isn’t good. It’s another match with that overly-choreographed and still in slow motion, lots of hesitation so they don’t quite do the moves correctly, type of setup. People over-rotating so their opponent can’t even hit their kicks in a convincing way and such.
  • Raquel powerbombing Liv onto everyone standing on the outside will probably be the highlight.
  • Wow. This was crap. And Shayna and Ronda only came in for a split second to get the win. They’re seemingly both hurt, so that explains that, but the match was still bad even before they got in there. Major thumbs down.

Now, we’re getting Bobby Lashley coming out with the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal trophy. And he’s not dressed in his ring gear. All he does is pose with the trophy and that’s it. Wow. Night 1 was so good. What are we doing here tonight??

Intercontinental Championship Triple Threat Match: Gunther (c) vs. Drew McIntyre vs. Sheamus

  • These guys went from “will probably have the best match on the show” to “in a spot where they need to have an even better match to SAVE the show” as this event has been crap so far.
  • Give us less of this Mike’s lemonade promotional cut-away stuff and more of these three beating the tar out of each other.
  • Sheamus has a bloody chest from the chops. Tons of chops going on.
  • All three of these guys are going to be so beaten up and sore. Fantastic. I hope this match doesn’t end any time soon.
  • Sheamus is able to hit a Brogue Kick on Gunther and ALMOST got the pin, but McIntyre pulled The Celtic Warrior out of the ring.
  • “This is awesome” chant right before McIntyre hits his front flip to the outside on Sheamus.
  • Claymore attempt was blocked with a Brogue Kick! McIntyre kicks out!
  • These three Superstars need a raise for bringing WrestleMania’s energy back and having a great match.
  • Gunther powerbombs Sheamus onto McIntyre, and then powerbombs McIntyre and pins him for the win. Awesome match.

Raw Women’s Championship Match: Bianca Belair (c) vs. Asuka

  • Keep the trend going with another great match, ladies. Let’s not lose this momentum.
  • Having 4 other people dressed up like Asuka doesn’t count as a “WrestleMania entrance” that would be considered special by any means. Step up your game, WWE. Almost no special entrances this year. That’s disappointing.
  • At least these little girls in Bianca Belair’s entrance are killing it.
  • Good match so far. Both are great, so that’s not a surprise.
  • Nice vertical suplex from Belair, picking up Asuka from the outside of the apron. She’s crazy strong.
  • KOD attempt is blocked with Asuka grabbing the rope, and she goes for the mist, but Belair ducks it and goes for another KOD, but Asuka twists into an armbar.
  • Belair powers out and twists into a KOD for the win.
  • Very good match. Not as good as Flair vs. Ripley in my mind, but still very good.

There’s no way we don’t get some filler now. It’s 9:40 and there are only two matches left, with one being the Hell in a Cell match that has to come down in the first place.

And here we go with The Miz and Snoop Dogg again. Is this going to lead to another match? Can we get something with LA Knight? Bobby Lashley? Let’s see if WWE has something interesting in mind, or if it’s just more of the bad filler from earlier.

The Miz complains about the impromptu match from last night and Snoop Dogg calls out for….SHANE MCMAHON. Well, the crowd sure popped big for it.

Shane McMahon vs. The Miz / Snoop Dogg vs. The Miz

  • Almost immediately, Shane goes down with some sort of leg injury.
  • Snoop Dogg just went straight to punching out The Miz. And then, did it again. All of this is awkward. And then, he pulls out a People’s Elbow and pins The Miz.
  • What the hell was this??!?
  • Boy, night 2 of WrestleMania is certainly not capturing the same magic as night 1.

Hell in a Cell Match: Edge vs. Finn Balor

  • Edge’s entrance is to some song I don’t recognize, wearing a mirror mask and some bat wings. No Brood song. Meh.
  • Finn Balor’s entrance is him in the facepaint and all, carrying some purple smoke sticks. Equally as blah, to me.
  • At least the cage isn’t red. But boy is my energy depleted and not in a good way.
  • Why are the weapons all red and purple? Particularly, since Balor has red and purple, are we meant to think he showed up ahead of time and spray painted them? These just look like toys instead of weapons. Bad decision. It doesn’t make it more interesting or cool. Thumbs down on yet another thing tonight.
  • Don’t tell me this match is now coming to a halt, too, after that last segment. WOW. It is. Night 2 is such a bust in so many ways.
  • Well, a couple minutes later, Balor is ready to fight again. he clearly is upset that they needed to stop. You can’t blame him for it. He even seemed like he wanted to open up his cut even more to keep bleeding.
  • This crowd is antsy. After everything happening tonight, the main event has to deliver now more than ever.
  • Balor attempted a coup de grace off the support platform on the side of the Hell in a Cell (above the ring ropes, but not off the top of the cage), and Edge moved, causing Balor to crash through a table.
  • Edge hits a spear, but Balor kicks out.
  • Specifically with the 2 red chairs (cause screw you, purple chair) Edge gets the win with a con-chair-to.
  • This was better than I had anticipated, but it still had that unfortunate stall with the whole stopping for blood nonsense.

Something like 15 minutes of commercials and filler have taken place. This is a terribly paced show.

Undisputed WWE Universal Championship Match: Roman Reigns (c) vs. Cody Rhodes

  • Cody’s entrance didn’t live up to my expectations. Maybe they’re saving the pyro for the celebration.
  • Cody gives his belt to the son of Luke Harper, Brodie Lee Jr. We don’t have Dustin Rhodes here, but we do have Negative 1.
  • Roman’s entrance is complete with a few pianists on some fake pianos (shell of real pianos, with some digital keyboards mounted on them. Maybe that’s a thing I’m unaware of until now, but it sure seems to me like they took keyboards and glued them on top of pianos to pretend).
  • Roman doesn’t even have any special ring gear?
  • No Usos. Just Paul Heyman and Solo Sikoa.
  • At least the crowd is hot and they didn’t have their energy sapped prior to this.
  • Solo gives us our first interference with a steel chair jab to Cody’s back while the referee wasn’t watching.
  • Roman swipes everything off the commentary tables and preps Cody for a powerbomb. Cody reverses with a back body drop that sends Reigns through the other table.
  • Cody Cutter for a two-count.
  • Solo must have ripped the belt away from Negative 1, as he just whacked Cody with it. But the ref has his moment of clarity and ejects Sikoa from ringside for a big pop moment.
  • Roman’s got the belt and the referee wrestles it away from him. Cody uses that distraction to hit a kick and a Cross Rhodes! For a two-count.
  • Reigns with a uranage slam for a two-count.
  • Cody with a pedigree for a two-count. I love hearing Michael Cole’s enthusiasm and this hot crowd getting sucked into every near-fall.
  • Beautiful Disaster Kick is cut off with a Superman Punch for a two.
  • Cody’s locked in a Figure 4 leglock. Reigns reverses it, but Rhodes gets to the ropes.
  • Roman hits a spear! Cody kicks out!
  • Tribal Chief has Cody in a guillotine choke…but Cody keeps the arm up!
  • Cody falls down, though. He’s fading. But he gets a surge of adrenaline and punches his way out.
  • Ref bump time. Both men are down as well.
  • With the referee down, Jimmy and Jey Uso have come out to attack Rhodes and lay him out. But Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn are here to even the odds!
  • Owens hits a Stunner on Roman Reigns! Sami hits a Helluva Kick on Roman! The brawl continues with the tag teams fighting into the crowd.
  • The referee is back to count the pinfall…and Reigns kicks out!
  • Bionic elbow! Cross Rhodes! A second Cross Rhodes!
  • Paul Heyman is on the apron to distract the referee and Solo Sikoa just hit a Samoan Spike
  • Roman with a spear! And…Roman retains with a pinfall. WHAT???
  • Wow. That’s it. What the hell…
