Originally, WWE had planned for the steel cage match between WWE Champion Big E and Kevin Owens to be the main event of Monday’s Raw, but Liv Morgan challenging Becky Lynch ended up being in this spot.
Pwinsider.com reports the women’s title match was slated for the second hour of Raw. After it was realized it was the anniversary of the Lita vs. Trish Stratus match that headlined Raw in December 2004, there was a push for Lynch vs. Morgan to go on last. The match also did strong digital numbers.
The cage match opened the show and replaced an initially planned talking segment that would have both Owens and Big E to further hype it up.
