News On The Inspiration Behind The “Blackpool Combat Club”

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter has a note about the inspiration behind the creation of the Blackpool Combat Club.

The idea originated with Jon Moxley and Bryan Danielson, who based the group on Jumbo Tsuruta’s group from All Japan in the 1990s. The concept was to get over younger wrestlers by placing them with established stars, similar to how Giant Baba got over Mitsuharu Misawa, Toshiaki Kawada, and Kenta Kobashi. The idea would be to have great matches (singles, tag, trios) with younger talent to bring them up from the midcard to the main event level.
