One Man’s Thoughts: Genesis

What is up everyone?! So for those who don’t know me, I am a regular user on the sight, and I got by the username, bearkg88. I’m a regular blogger on EWN, and I’ve been given the chance to do editorials now. So with that in mind, I decided to do one for TNA tonight. Lately, I haven’t been watching TNA, mainly because it hasn’t been live. I’ve been reading spoilers. But with tonight being Genesis, I thought I’d actually watch it as it airs. So, without further adieu, here is my first editorial! Side note, it will be in the same vain as my Uncooked series, with the good, the bad, and the indifferent. Cheers!

The Good

*Sting promo

Ok so I technically took the opening segment, and split it into three parts. But in all honesty, some of it was good, some was bad, and some, I felt was in the middle. Anyways, here we get a Sting promo, hyping up the match later tonight with EC3, and digging into Dixie and her gang. I liked it. Anytime the Stinger is on the mic, it’s usually good, so I am glad to see this.

*Aries/Sky/Sabin promo

This was another promo I really liked. Sucks the match won’t be till next week though! My money is on Austin Aries to win. Hopefully he does, and holds onto the title for a while. TNA has been playing hot potato with the title lately, so I’d like to see someone get it, and hold onto it for a while, and Aries is the perfect guy! Anyways, the promo was good. The set up for next week was good. Velvets part seem a little repetitive, but that’s ok. All in all, good segment.

*Gail Kim vs Madison Rayne

Ok, so this match was good. Considering the night we are having, this match is good. I know there have been other Knockout matches that would blow this one out of the water, but in comparison to how this night has gone, this was good. Glad to see Rayne pick up the win. Hopefully she gets to hold onto the title for a while and have a good feud and good rayne…see the funny I made. Haha.

*Sting vs EC3/Ending Promo

Ok so we get the ending of the night. The EC3 vs Sting match. Now first off, Rockstar Spud, I really really don’t like him. He just comes off as so annoying. The type where you just want to reach through the screen and slap him. Anyways, the match was ok. The ending was predictable, but it was the aftermath that was good. Now lets be honest, when Sting lost a while back and there was the stipulation that he would never receive another World title shot, did anyone honestly believe that? Yeah me either. So now we get Magnus vs Sting, where if Sting wins, he is the champ, and if he loses, his contract is ripped up. Normally I wouldn’t be pumped for a match like this, but adding in that the WWE are trying to get Sting to come in, I think this is a perfect time for this kind of match. It makes you wonder if TNA is running this angle as a way to write Sting off if they can’t agree to a new contract, or if TNA is doing this to screw with the internet community. I can’t wait to watch this match and see what happens.

The Bad

*Brawl/6 on 6 tag match

Ok, so some brawls are good, some aren’t. This one for me, wasn’t. There was just so much going on! Then, we come back from the commercial, and get a 6 on 6 match. So it starts off with two people going at it in the ring, one gets the advantage, they get out of the ring, and two others come in. Eventually, we get everyone on the aprons, but in the whole match, we only get 1 legal tag! Wow. So then Joseph Park attacks Gunner and Storm, leaves the ring, Joe comes back, and gets the pin for the win. This match was all over, and just awful.

*First Hour=1 Match

So in the first hour of Impact, we got one match. ONE MATCH! Ok sure, the Bully/Anderson match started right at the end of the first hour, but you would think we’d see more! I’m not going to dwell on this, as I think it speaks for itself.

*Show split In two

This is another thing that I find is bad. They do these “specials” and only have certain actual PPV’s throughout the year. Instead of splitting it into two weeks, they should have negotiated with Spike and done an extra hour or something. To me, when it is split in two, it doesn’t feel “special”. Hopefully next weeks is live, but I don’t know. If it is taped, that will suck imo.

The Indifferent

*Opening Promo

Ok so for this opening promo of Magnus and Dixie, I didn’t think it was bad, but it wasn’t good. It served its purpose. I’m not a big fan of heel Dixie though.

*Bully Ray vs Anderson

So this match was ok. It was more of a brawl, and served it’s purpose. It didn’t wow me, but it was god awful like the 6 on 6 match. The ending makes me think this feud isn’t over though. Now there is no denying Bully Ray is great on the mic, and can go in the ring, but does anyone else feel like since losing the World title, and Aces and 8s splitting up, Bully really hasn’t been going anywhere?

*Angle/Dixie promo

Now we get a Kurt Angle and Dixie Carter promo. So the Angle/Roode match is postponed for a week. I’ve already vented about the whole split into two shows, so I won’t go into it again. Anyways, the promo was ok. Much like the opening promo between Magnus and Dixie, this one served its purpose as well.

*Overall

So now we wait for one week for the next part of Genesis. Next week we see Aries vs Sabin for the X title, with Sky locked away. Roode vs Angle, Gunner vs Storm, and Sting vs Magnus. Those matches alone already have me looking forward to that show, and think it could be WAY better than this one. Other than a few bright moments, I felt like this episode of TNA was a let down. I know I didn’t touch on the American Wolves appearing, or the investor part, but I hope both get focused on more next week than the brief moment we got this week. If i had to grade this show on a scale of 1 to 5, I’d give it a 2. Maybe a 2.5.

Well everyone, thanks for taking the time to read my editorial! I look forward to all of your comments!
