It appears that the ongoing scandal involving Vince McMahon paying hush money to several women he’s allegedly had affairs with is now being investigated by the SEC and federal prosecutors. As noted, The Wall Street Journal broke the original story about McMahon paying $3 million to a former WWE employee he had an affair with.

McMahon later stepped down as WWE CEO and Chairman, leaving Stephanie McMahon and Nick Khan to work as co-CEOs together and Triple H taking on the role of head of creative for WWE. The Wall Street Journal now reports that the Securities and Exchange Commission and federal prosecutors have begun investigating the payment, as well as other payments McMahon made to women to cover up allegations of sexual misconduct.

This comes shortly after WWE posted an 8-K filing with the SEC, noting that they found $14.6 million in payments from Vince McMahon that were not listed as company expenses. The report adds that the investigations “hastened” McMahon’s retirement.
