Joey Janela talked about AEW President Tony Khan and his availability backstage recently.
Over the weekend, much was made of Jonathan Gresham’s request for his AEW/ROH release. The main bone of contention between the two sides was a lack of communication. It has been previously reported that Gresham and Khan had difficulty with communication behind the scenes.
Joey Janela was on Twitter over the weekend, defending his former boss. The AEW original had the following to say when it came to Tony Khan’s “approach-ability” backstage and how he communicates with talent.
Replying to a conversation on Twitter, Janela had the following to say:
I never said that, Tony is quite approachable and easy to find https://t.co/OnWGlG3JdW

Janela would follow-up those comments by clarifying that the issues are more of a talent relation thing:
It’s really not Tony’s job it’s talent relations, I’m sure if I texted Tony I would’ve got a text back or a phone call but I wasn’t really trying to push a new deal with other negotiations in place.
Communication could definitely be better never said tony was a “ghost” https://t.co/gvOi8yjQqM

Janela’s AEW contract expired at the end of April. Since his release, the Bad Boy has had nothing but positive things to say about his former employer and its head booker. Janela has gone on record as saying that AEW is a positive work environment:
“It’s a fantastic work environment. Of course, all professional wrestling, especially on a mainstream level, there is going to be a huge amount of politics. When you have 25-minute matches every week on the show, it’s hard to fit everyone in. You’re not going to make everyone happy. [Khan] tries to make everyone happy.”
