Ladies and gentlemen welcome to this week’s weekly recap and review of the Ring of Honor Wrestling television product. We are on the road to ROH Best in the World 2021, and tonight’s episode builds momentum for that event. In this show, we bear witness to the first-round contest in the ROH Survival of the Fittest Tournament – a match between former MexiSquad teammates Demonic Flamita and Rey Horus. We also will see a match between former mentor and former mentee – Silas Young vs. Josh Woods in a Pure Rules match. Without further ado, let’s get into this one.

ROH Survival of the Fittest 2021 Tournament:
Demonic Flamita vs. Rey Horus

We start off tonight’s action with the first match-up of the 2021 Survival of the Fittest tournament. Flamita, now known as Demonic Flamita, makes his way to ringside. Commentary seems shocked at Flamita’s persona, as he is adorned in dark robes and new entrance music. Horus makes his way down to ringside, and he is excited to work his way forward in this tournament. Both of these Mexican stars are set for one fall. Let’s get into this week’s ROH Results & Review.

The Code of Honor is “adhered to” (technically), as Flamita slaps the hand of Horus rather than shaking it. Horus and Flamita go back and forth, starting off hot. Flamita landed a devastating suicide spear to the outside of the ring on Horus. Flamita keeps tossing Horus in-and-out of the ring so he can break the count. After a litany of strikes from Flamita to Horus, Flamita steals the chair from members of the ringside crew and strikes his opponent with it. Horus would reverse, strike him with the chair, and sat his opponent on it. He would sit Flamita on the chair and land a devastating Tope Con Hilo on the demonic wrestler.

After cutting to commercial break, we return to Horus and Flamita in the middle of the ring going strike-for-strike with each other. Flamita lands a beautiful Springboard DDT from the apron into the ring. With Horus on the apron, Flamita would attempt a suplex into the ring. After multiple attempts, Flamita would be successful in his attempt. Flamita would land a maneuver I had never seen before – a muscle buster transitioned into a gourdbuster. Following this by a superkick, Flamita would roll up Horus for the three-count and the victory.

Match Result: Demonic Flamita defeated Rey Horus via Pinfall.
Walker’s Words: This match was absolutely fantastic. The finish was a little strange, in my opinion, but it didn’t overshadow anything in this match. I loved this one! Great introduction for me into both of these men.

Sledge vs. Brian Johnson Promo

Moving on in this week’s ROH results, we have Sledge discussing his upcoming match with Brian Johnson. He would discuss his battles with losing his father and would tell Johnson that he would kill to have one more second with his father (whereas Johnson disrespects his father.) Sledge said he would end Brian Johnson’s career. Brian Johnson would talk about Sledge’s battles with addiction, and how he is a role model for children. However, that doesn’t mean Johnson respects Sledge. This first-round match in the Survival of the Fittest tournament will take place on ROH Week-By-Week on June 8, 2021. (Stay tuned for more coverage on this match!)

Pure Rules Match:
Josh Woods vs. Silas Young

It’s time for a match between two men who have been feuding for weeks now. “The Last Real Man” Silas Young faces off against “The Technical Beast” Josh Woods. This would come after Young would betray Woods during his match with the former ROH World Champion, Dalton Castle. Silas Young has defeated Josh Woods before, but he would cheat to do so. With the Code of Honor adhered to, let’s see how this match went down.

Josh and Silas would lock up, and this match is on. Woods and Young would go back and forth with different submissions. Neither man is showing any sort of weakness with this one. Around seven minutes into the match, these men go from technical wrestling to pure striking. Woods’ emotions would get the best of him and would throw a powerful strike with a closed fist. The referee would issue an official warning for that closed fist, and Silas Young is absolutely shaken.

We return from commercial break where we see Young chopping Woods in the corner. After a multitude of elbow strikes and Irish whips from Young, Woods would come back with a flurry of chops and uppercuts to The Last Real Man. Locking in a sleeper hold, Young would attempt to roll Woods into a pinfall utilizing the ropes. After a two-count, the referee would notice Young using the ropes for leverage which would use his first of three allotted rope breaks. Young would go on to land a massive DDT on the apron. That was devastating.

Young would go on to use his final two rope breaks, meaning Young can be honorably pinned underneath the ropes. Woods would utilize his first rope break after a massive clothesline from Young and an attempted pinfall. After attempting a Pee Wee Waja Plunge, Young would be reversed. Woods would lock in the Beast Lock. With Young being out of allotted rope breaks, he would tap to Woods.

Match Result: Josh Woods defeated Silas Young via Submission.
Walker’s Words: With this match being a Pure Rules match, I was scared as to if I would enjoy this one. Spoiler alert: I loved it. This was such a good contest between two big brutes in ROH. Go out of your way to watch this one.
