Former Writer Says John Cena Appearing In WWE During SAG-AFTRA Strikes Is ‘Not A Great Look’

On a recent edition of “The Ten Count” podcast, former WWE writer Brian Gewirtz opined that John Cena appearing on WWE TV during the ongoing SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes is ‘not a great look.’

Cena, who will return to SmackDown this Friday, September 1 at The Giant Center in Hershey, PA, will continue to appear on SmackDown for seven consecutive weeks starting Friday, September 15 at the Ball Arena in Denver, CO, and lasting through the end of October. The Champ will also travel to India for the WWE Superstar Spectacle show on September 8.

Gewirtz, however, gave Cena the benefit of the doubt, noting that the 16-time World Champion is likely fulfilling commitments he made to WWE a while ago.

Gewirtz further stated that Cena isn’t doing anything that violates his SAG commitments as WWE doesn’t answer to the unions. He said,

“My mindset is: If you’re an actor or performer, typically doing TV and movies and that kind of thing, that it’s not a great look to then go on WWE and be performing while these strikes are going on. Everyone has their own mindset. If I know WWE, I’m thinking this deal with John Cena — especially if he’s booked to wrestle overseas or wherever Superstar [Spectacle] is — has been inked to paper a long time ago. I think it’s up to the individual what they want to do, and certainly if things were agreed to upon months ago, I can see them sticking to it.”
