Wrestling legend Konnan believes the contract signing has been overused in pro wrestling to the point of becoming a cliché.

Contract signings are used across various promotions to make high-profile matches official and often result in the talent fighting after inking a contract.

On a recent edition of his “Keepin’ It 100” podcast, Konnan gave his take on this staple of the industry. He said,

“Let me explain to you what I think has happened with the contract signing. Some of my favorite ones were in NWA and the early ones in WWE. … When they started brawling and putting people through tables and s*** like that, it was really exciting. But then everybody copied that, because it was a successful formula, and it became formulaic.

“It’s hard to make it special. You got two [or] three hours to fill, and you gotta fill it up with something. Yeah, but they should come up with other things [than] the contract signing to make it a little more interesting.”

Konnan compared contract signings to modern-day horror movies, arguing that fans of both have already seen everything they need to see.

Despite Konnan’s belief, WWE will have a contract signing between Roman Reigns & LA Knight on next week’s episode of WWE SmackDown to make their Crown Jewel match official.
